Spidey Come Home and D23 Announcements

I’m not going to do headers this week because it’s all Marvel news. I’ve been away for health reasons so for the next few weeks I won’t be talking about other projects that our favorite actors are up to. When things calm down  again that part of the blog will return.

It was emotional for Spider-Man fans this week when it was revealed by various sources that Sony and Disney could not reach a deal when it came to Spider-Man continuing in the MCU. The Homecoming was short-lived and Tom Holland’s Spidey is out of the MCU for the time being. Fingers crossed that Sony and Disney can get their crap together and that everyone’s favorite web-slinger can stay home where he belongs.

Sony’s statement on the ordeal reads as follows:

“Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise,” Sony said in a statement. “We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film. We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own,” the statement continued. “Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue.”

Tom Holland had this to say about Spider-Man’s future:

‘All I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man … The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler’

Kevin Feige on Sony’s Spider-Man decision:

“It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever. We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”

Some new members of the Eternals cast were announced:

Gemma Chan will play Cersei.

Kit Harrington will play Dane Whitman AKA Black Knight.

Some new cast members for WandaVision were announced:

Kathryn Hahn will play a “nosy neighbor.”

Randall Park will return as his Ant-Man and the Wasp character Jimmy Woo.

Kat Dennings is returning as her Thor character Darcy Lewis.

The show is being described as part classic sitcom (Yay! My favorite kind!) and part epic MCU adventure.

Falcon and Winter Soldier:

Wyatt Russell will be playing US Agent.

Emily VanCamp will return as Sharon Carter.

What If?

There will be one episode for each of the 23 movies that are currently out.

Almost the entire MCU cast will be lending their voices to the project.

Concepts for episodes include:

Steve Rogers in a suit the size of Iron Monger.

T’Challa as Star Lord.

Zombie Captain America.

Loki:

Kate Herron will be directing the series.

Questions to be answered:

Will the sun shine on Loki again?

Will Loki make a new friend? (Please be Verity Willis!)

Where did he go with the Tesseract?

The season seven trailer for Agents of Shield was released:

Contrary to recent reports, Taika Waititi HASN’T finished the Thor: Love and Thunder script. He tweeted saying that the title page is complete. You gotta start somewhere!

Avengers: Endgame will be available to stream on Disney + on December 11.

In an interview with uproxx, Martin Freeman said the last he heard Black Panther 2 will begin filming at the beginning of 2021.

DiscussingFilm reported that Matt is in talks to direct a six episode Marvel series for Disney+. There is no info on what series it could be.

First Far From Home Trailer Isn’t Far Away

I know it’s only been a couple of days, but several announcements and rumors have popped up since I posted on Friday. If this keeps happening, you can expect several news updates throughout the week.

It’s been a long wait for the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer. It was originally rumored to be released this past December, but the date kept getting pushed back. SuperBroMovies has stayed on top of news for the trailers release and say that the first trailer is expected to be released on Tuesday. Hopefully….Finally.

There’s a RUMOR going around right now about the possibility of the Black Widow movie being the first R-rated MCU movie. This was first brought up by The Hashtag Show’s Charles Murphy. Apparently early in Black Widow’s development, Marvel talked about making it R-rated. While this is a possibility, it’s currently just a rumor.

If I remember correctly, both Venom and Bumblebee were rumored to both be R-rated. But both movies ended up being rated PG-13. So just because this rumor is going around doesn’t mean it will end up being true. It’s something interesting to think about though. Would you be interested in seeing an R-rated movie in the MCU? I honestly hope they stick with their PG-13 rating so that more people, particularly younger children, can go see it. I don’t think parents would be happy/impressed with a higher rating, and I don’t think it’s fair to kids to not be able to see their favorite heroes in movies, especially when they’ve seen these heroes in all the movies that came before.

Discussing Film has announced several tidbits of information regarding several Marvel shows for the Disney Plus streaming service:

1. A Lady Sif show is in early development. It’ll be produced by Kevin Feige and Jamie Alexander would return to star as Lady Sif. There’s currently no news on where the show would be set in the MCU timeline

2. Both Vision And The Scarlet Witch and the Loki series are currently expected to start filming this year.

3. All of the Disney Plus Marvel shows are reported to have $100 million production budgets.

That should be all until it’s not. 😂
